NAVI MUMBAI: Green activists planted around 275 indigenous tree saplings at Nere in Panvel taluka on the occasion of India's 75th Independence Day . Social service NGOs such as Ganga Sagar Foundation and Pune based Baud Foundation actively participated in the tree plantation drive, along with other citizens and the local villagers at Nere.
"The tree plantation programme was also supported by Mumbai based citizen Ajit Inamdar who planted 100 trees at the site in the memory of his father, Sadashiv Waman Inamdar, who was a freedom fighter. Also, the members of Panvel Nisarga Mitra team enthusiastically participated in the distribution of the saplings and their plantations,'' said activist Anarjit Chauhan.
The trees were planted in an area which falls within the forest land at Panvel. Many senior citizens and children were also seen planting trees on the occasion.
The green activists informed that earlier this year, around 250 trees were planted as part of afforestation in the same region in Panvel.
The Indian tricolour was also hoisted at the event, and everybody present sang the national anthem.
"My Ganga Sagar Foundation group has given me the confidence I need to take a huge next step, and also the backbone I need to feel like I’m not alone doing so. I am so honored to be surrounded by such an inspiring and diverse group of women, who I know are always available when I need them.
The Ganga Sagar Foundation group was very empowering to me as a woman. I got to hear about women issues and statistics and what could be done on an individual basis to change the numbers.I was able to learn a lot about myself and I received important helpful feedback from Kristi and my fellow classmates. I also enjoyed the field trips!!!
